Promat's History

Promat’s story began in Germany in 1958. The company then gradually expanded its market to all of Europe. Today Promat is part of the Etex Group and present in over 40 countries.

For 50 years, Promat has been designing, testing and manufacturing products and systems entirely dedicated to fire protection extended to thermal, high and low temperature insulation as well as resistance to humidity and acoustic correction / weakening .

Promat is founded in Germany. The Brand name is derived from PROgressive MATerials and immediately shows a strong commitment to use innovative products and solutions to protect people, property and assets. The company specialises as expert in passive fire protection during the hectic reconstruction period known as the Wirtshaftswunder.

Promat launches a cement based board for compartmentation and shaft protection. The company develops official fire tests according to national and international standards. Promat expands its market to a range of European countries: Belgium, the Netherlands, Austria, France, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

The Promat company is acquired by the Etex Group and immediately starts a rapid global expansion in Southern Europe and Asia. We launch the first calcium silicate boards and the first systems for compartmentation and structural protection.

Thanks to the success of our new solutions, we become the world’s leading provider of passive fire protection and high-performance insulation materials, with centres and production facilities in Europe, USA, Latin America, Middle Est and Asia.

Promat broadens its product range thanks to some important acquisitions. Promat now manufactures a complete portfolio of passive fire protection systems for structural protection, compartmentation and smoke extraction in buildings and structures. We also offer associated fire-stopping materials, intumescent paints and fire-resistant glass.

Promat now has operations in Europe, South America and Asia Pacific, with 17 manufacturing plants worldwide. The company’s main research and development laboratory is headquartered in Tisselt, Belgium with other dedicated labs in France, Malaysia, Austria and UK.

With its long history of innovation and expertise in passive fire protection systems, Promat continues to develop new, market-changing products aimed at enhancing safety, providing quality of life and peace of mind for building users.
